Determining Bias with Cumulant Correlators

چکیده

The first non-trivial cumulant correlator of the galaxy density fieldQ21 is examined from the point of view of biasing. It is shown that to leading order it depends on two biasing parameters b, and b2, and on q21, the underlying cumulant correlator of the mass. As the skewness Q3 has analogous properties, the slope of the correlation function −γ, Q3, and Q21 uniquely determine the bias parameter on a particular scale to be b = γ/6(Q21−Q3), when working in the context of gravitational instability with Gaussian initial conditions. Thus on large scales, easily accessible with the future Sloan Digital Sky Survey and the 2 Degree Field Survey, it will be possible to extract b, and b2 from simple counts in cells measurements. Moreover, the higher order cumulants, QN , successively determine the higher order biasing parameters. From these it is possible to predict higher order cumulant correlators as well. Comparing the predictions with the measurements will provide internal consistency checks on the validity of the assumptions in the theory, most notably perturbation theory of the growth of fluctuations by gravity and Gaussian initial conditions. Since the method is insensitive to Ω, it can be successfully combined with results from velocity fields, which determine Ω/b, to measure the total density parameter in the universe.

Cumulant Correlators in 2D and 3D Scale Free Simulations

Shape dependence of higher order correlations introduces complication in direct determination of these quantities. For this reason theoretical and observational progress has been restricted in calculating one point distribution functions and related moments. Methods based on factorial moments of two point count probability distribution (cumulant correlators) were recently shown to be efficient ...

This work presents a set of new statistics, the cumulant correlators, aimed at high precision analysis of the galaxy distribution. They form a symmetric matrix, QNM , related to moment correlators the same way as cumulants are related to the moments of the distribution. They encode more information than the usual cumulants, SN ’s, and their extraction from data is similar to the calculation of ...

From Snakes to Stars , the Statistics of Collapsed Objects - I . Lower – order Clustering Properties

The highly nonlinear regime of gravitational clustering is characterized by the presence of scale-invariance in the hierarchy of many-body correlation functions. Although the exact nature of this correlation hierarchy can only be obtained by solving the full set of BBGKY equations, useful insights can be obtained by investigating the consequences of a generic scaling ansatz. Extending earlier s...

Determination of the size distribution of monodesperse and bidisperse mixtures of spherical particles in the nanometer and submicron size range by applying cumulant analysis and contin algorithm in dynamic light scattering

Determination of particle size is one of the major needs in the industry and biotechnology. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is a widely used technique for determining size distribution of spherical particle in nanometer and submicron size range. In this method, there are different algorithms for determining the size and size distribution of particles, which are selected according to the required...

Time ordering and counting statistics

The basic quantum mechanical relation between fluctuations of transported charge and current correlators is discussed. It is found that, as a rule, the correlators are to be time-ordered in an unusual way. Instances where the difference with the conventional ordering matters are illustrated by means of a simple scattering model. We apply the results to resolve a discrepancy concerning the third...
